West Virginia Reaches $96 Billion in Private-Sector Investment, Supporting More Than 19,000 Projected Jobs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia has reached a new economic development milestone, with approximately $96 billion in private-sector investment announced since October 2025, supporting more than 19,000 projected jobs across the state.

The total took a major step in September with more than $81 billion in newly announced investment, including two large-scale digital infrastructure projects that further position West Virginia for growth in artificial intelligence, advanced computing and energy-intensive industries.

NScale received High Impact Data Center certification for the first phase of a project representing a projected $69.2 billion investment. The development is expected to require approximately 2 gigawatts of power and support approximately 4,375 construction jobs and 645 permanent jobs. Project-related infrastructure costs will be covered by NScale rather than West Virginia ratepayers.

Starwood Digital Ventures also received High Impact Data Center certification for a planned $12 billion investment in Mason County. The project is expected to require approximately 2.16 gigawatts of power and support approximately 1,500 jobs, with the company responsible for its project-related infrastructure costs.

The announcements demonstrate the increasing connection between West Virginia’s energy resources and its ability to compete for a new generation of large-scale economic development projects. The state’s growing investment pipeline now spans digital infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, energy and other emerging industries.

Additional economic development highlighted this week includes a $13 million expansion by life sciences company Randox in Jefferson County, expected to add 100 jobs, along with AEP’s acquisition of the Longview Power Plant and commitment to additional power generation in West Virginia.

With approximately $96 billion in private-sector investment and more than 19,000 projected jobs announced in less than a year, West Virginia continues to build its position as a destination for companies seeking energy, workforce, infrastructure and room to grow.
